FAQ
How do I get involved with Open Fields Alliance?
Several ways, at different levels of commitment. Join the email list in under a minute. Come to an event near you. Volunteer - host an Open Fields Social, offer your time, or apply for the board. Or join a program: a campus chapter, an affinity group, OFA at Work, or SpectrumNEXT leadership development.
Do I have to be out at work to join?
No. Many people in this community are not out at their companies. Open Fields Alliance does not publish a public list of who's involved, does not contact employers, and does not require you to be visible anywhere you don't choose to be. You decide what's public.
Does it cost anything to get involved?
No. The email list, affinity groups, and campus chapters are free. The Annual Conference has a registration fee, with scholarships of up to $2,750 available, and SpectrumNEXT has a program fee for people who are selected
Can allies join?
Yes. Allies are welcome at the Annual Conference, at events, and as volunteers and board members. This is a community built for LGBTQ+ people in food and agriculture, and allies are here in support of that rather than at the center of it.
Do you have to be a farmer to join?
No, and most of this community works elsewhere in the industry - corporate agriculture, commodity associations, communications, education, extension, government, nonprofits, research. Farmers are the reason this industry exists in the first place, and they are part of this community too.
