Every year we recognize people, organizations, and students growing this sector for LGBTQ+ people. The awards are presented at the Open Fields Alliance Annual Conference, at the Celebration Dinner, in front of the community they’re for.
The Awards
Agriculture Influencer Award
For companies and organizations backing LGBTQ+ people in food and agriculture, and supporting Open Fields Alliance through sponsorship, engagement, and promotion.
Change Maker Award
For an individual who has played a pivotal role in championing visibility and voice for LGBTQ+ people in the agriculture industry, and who keeps using their work to do it.
Student Scholar Award
For a student advancing the mission of Open Fields Alliance on their campus or in their community.
Ally Award
For an ally who uses their position or influence to advocate for LGBTQ+ people in food and agriculture. Acceptance is the baseline; this award is for the people who go further.
Past Honorees
Honorees are nominated by their peers, selected by the board, and recognized at the Annual Conference each year.
Nominate Someone
Anyone can nominate anyone, including yourself.
Nominations open early in the year and close at the end of June. The board reviews every nomination and selects the honorees. Winners are notified, receive free Annual Conference registration, and are recognized at the Celebration Dinner.

Awards are presented at the Open Fields Alliance Annual Annual Conference each October, at the Celebration Dinner.

What are the Open Fields Alliance awards?
Open Fields Alliance presents four awards each year at its Annual Conference: the Agriculture Influencer Award for companies and organizations, the Change Maker Award for an individual championing LGBTQ+ visibility in agriculture, the Student Scholar Award for a student, and the Ally Award. Nominations are open to anyone, including self-nominations.
Who can nominate someone for an award?
Anyone. You don’t need to have attended a Annual Conference or have any prior connection to Open Fields Alliance. Self-nominations are accepted and common. Nominations open early in the year and close at the end of June, after which the board reviews every submission and selects the honorees.
What award categories are there?
Four. The Agriculture Influencer Award goes to a company or organization supporting LGBTQ+ people in food and agriculture. The Change Maker Award goes to an individual championing visibility and voice for LGBTQ+ people in the industry. The Student Scholar Award goes to a student advancing this work on campus or in their community. The Ally Award goes to an ally using their position to advocate for LGBTQ+ people in the sector.
